Description

For the 35th edition, the town of Loyettes will host the start of the traditional inaugural stage.

Going up from the Plaine de l'Ain, in the South of the Department, to the Plaine Tonique of Grand Bourg Agglomération, in the North, the peloton will visit the whole of the West side of the Department. Thus, the Côtière and then the Dombes country and its ponds will be on the program at the beginning of the stage. The peloton will then head towards Bresse where the attackers could use the difficulties of the final stage to foil the plans of the sprinters.

As usual in the Tour de l'Ain, the first stage should be very competitive and motivate the riders before two more difficult stages.

Loyettes, a commune with a population of almost 3,500, is the “southernmost” of the Ain plain. It lies at the confluence of the Rhône and Ain rivers, on the border with the Isère département. Close to the Lyon metropolitan area, it is also at the crossroads of major motorways, with Paris, Strasbourg and Marseille just a few hours away. The confluence is a listed natural site, with numerous footpaths offering attractive flora and fauna.

At the interface between the Lyon region and the south of the Ain département, the CC-Plaine de l’Ain benefits from road, motorway and rail links that make it even more attractive. At the confluence of the Ain and Rhône rivers, at the gateway to the Dombes and Bugey regions, it offers an unspoilt living environment at the heart of a green and tourist area with strong economic development.
The Plaine de l’Ain Community of Communes, the 7th largest in France by population, comprises 53 communes.
