This Wednesday, July 15, 2020 was held the press conference to present the 32nd Tour de l’Ain Solimut Mutuelle de France at the Hôtel du Département de l’Ain..

In front of some sixty guests, partners and media, Jean Deguerry, President of the Ain Department, recalled the excitement of the Ain people to return to the Tour de l’Ain this summer. The first major post-Covid19 event. A festive and popular event positioned this year as a preparatory event for the next Tour de France (September) where the Ain Department will once again be in the spotlight with the arrival at Le Grand Colombier, where the Tour de l’Ain is now taking up residence.

Philippe Colliou, Organisation Director, then presented the route in detail: 440km divided into 3 stages. A particularly demanding edition with a third stage linking Saint Vulbas to Grand Colombier identical to the 15th stage of the Tour de France over the last 110km. A repetition announced for the Grande Boucle, which is also remarkable for a new and exceptional sporting platform. 24 teams will be at the start, including 12 WorldTeams. Some big names such as Primoz Roglic, Egan Bernal, Nairo Quintana and Fabio Aru have announced their participation. The final list of riders will be announced in the next 10 days.

Despite the difficult context, private and public partners have maintained their commitment to the event. Philippe Colliou and Jean-Marc Daul, President of the Organising Committee, thanked them warmly.
If Solimut Mutuelle de France is still the title partner of the event with the yellow jersey of leader, Crédit Mutuel with the green jersey of the points ranking and Ain Tourisme partner of the white jersey of best young person, the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Region is the new exclusive partner of the mountain ranking. A blue jersey with white dots.

The Organising Committee took the opportunity to sign the renewal of its partnership agreement with Crédit Mutuel (in the presence of Christophe Cornet, head of the NPO market Crédit Mutuel Sud-Est) as well as a new agreement with the Gendarmerie Nationale for shared common values (in the presence of Colonel Bellemin-Laponnaz). Activities will be developed for the general public.

While Eurosport is the official broadcaster, France 3 Auvergne Rhône-Alpes will also relay the last two stages live on its channel. André Faucon, the channel’s director, expressed his enthusiasm for getting back on the bike on the small screen.

  • Eurosport France (Stages 1, 2 and 3 LIVE from 13h30 to 15h30)
  • Eurosport International (Stages 1 and 2 LIVE from 14h00 to 15h30; Stage 3 postponed from 19h00 to 20h30)
  • Eurosport Player / Global Cycling Network.
  • France 3 Rhône-Alpes Auvergne (Stages 2 and 3 from 13:35 to 15:15)

The presentation led by François Belay ended with an update on the activities and the welcome of the general public. The advertising caravan, so eagerly awaited by the spectators, will be reduced but kept. A sanitary protocol will be put in place. For the public, the Organization will do everything possible to ensure that barrier gestures and social distancing are respected. In particular, masks and gel will be distributed.
